Well you can’t help but feel the utmost sympathy for the Rt Hon Heather Galbraith and the team at Eglinton Horse Trials, as they has to cancel the horse trials on the Friday afternoon. This was due to the ground conditions in a few places on the course which the BE stewards felt were unsatisfactory.
As a retired organiser of Skipton HT, I can completely understand the frustration and disappointment. Cancelling at that late stage means that you have put all the hard work in and had all of the financial expenditure.
As I don’t tend to check my phone when I’m on the road I had missed the text announcing the cancellation. So, after a four hour journey in the horsebox, we rolled up at the Barskimming Estate, near Mauchline, in Ayrshire wondering why it was so quiet on the stable block.
Anyway, this has happened to us before and as always we were made so welcome and still enjoyed two nights on this fabulous estate. Mollie (Gadoralda D) enjoyed her hacks around the grounds as did the dogs so it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
Of course, Eglinton HT will be back in the diary for 2020.
Our next major outing will be the BE90, with Mollie, at Hopetoun HT near Edinburgh on the 29.06.2019. Fingers crossed that the weather is kinder and we get our second run of the season!
