Well what a weekend we had on the Barskimming Estate for Eglinton Horse Trials with Poppy, Rocky and the dogs. We are very lucky that the Rt Hon Heather Galbraith allows us to have an extended stay on this beautiful estate near to Mauchline, Ayrshire.
As ever Susan Colquhoun made us so welcome, as did her family, which included barbecues most nights. The weather was amazingly hot so it was great to get out hacking with the horses and walking with the dogs protected by the shade of the trees across the estate. Trips to the river were also most welcome.
Unfortunately, for reasons best known to her Poppy behaved horrendously during the dressage warm up and test so that we ended up with a score of 41. Thankfully, she went clear in the showjumping and just had a couple of time penalties in the cross country.
Going forwards Poppy will now concentrate on showjumping which she seems to enjoy more than eventing at this time. my friend Suzanne will take her off to various shows and we hope to see her qualify for a championship or two in the forthcoming seasons.
